- Knocks NLC, NULGE for peddling lies over payment
By John Dike, Osogbo
The All Progressives Congress, APC, has accused the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE and Nigerian Labour congress, NLC of peddling lies over the payment of the seized allocations of Osun State’s local governments.
Contrary to the claim by the unions that the funds had been paid to sacked APC chairmen and councillors’ accounts, the party said that the seized funds were paid to the official Local Government accounts
In a joint press conference, the state chapter of NULGE led by Comrade Kehinde Ogungbangbe and the NLC led by Comrade Christopher Arapasopo had accused the Finance Minister, and Attorney General of the Federation AGF of releasing the disputed funds to illegal chairmen and councillors, in contempt of the pending court judgment.
However the APC chided the state chapters of the unions for allegedly spreading lies to the public over the said LG funds released
The party accused the two leaders of spreading half truth on the matter and supporting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as new interpreters of the court judgements in respect of the delayed federal allocations for the state council chairmen.
A statement by APC Director of Media and Information Mr Kola Olabisi said “We want to, as a party which believes in the rule of law, make it abundantly clear that it is not the duty of the NULGE to interpret any court judgement and that the Court of Appeal judgement of the 10th of February, 2025 which reinstated the APC local government council chairmen and their councillors is still in force as there is no record anywhere that it was appealed against.
Olabisi said it is not true that the said federal allocations are paid into the account of any of the local government council chairmen or any of the APC member or chieftain but into the local government councils’ accounts.
“The NULGE needs not weave up series of lies in respect of the payment of the federal allocations for the local government councils in order to curry unmerited favour from the discerning members of the public as they are wiser having passed through hell in the hands of Ogungbangbe’s pursuit of self interest.
“It is unheard of that a supposed labour union like the Osun NULGE would deliberately shun the purpose for which it is existing to become an arm of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP).
“The sing-song of the NULGE before now was that some agencies of the Federal Government was withholding the accumulated federal allocations for the local government council areas.
“Now that the logjam in respect of the local government allocations for the state has been laid to rest, what would be the next excuse of the pungently pliable NULGE which has been on sympathy strike with Governor Ademola Adeleke for seven months running just for failed efforts to annex local government funds?”
The statement said that the claim that Osun NULGE is not political does not hold any water as it is visible to the blind, audible to the deaf and tangible to the morons that the members of the labour union are working for the interest of the PDP Governor Adeleke.
“Our advice for the NULGE officials and their members that are being misled by the union executive is to put on their thinking cap with a view to being part of the winning teams that are beginning to transform the grassroots level of government across the state.
“To this extent, we want to plead with the NULGE to shun brigandage and crisis as Osun State is a subset of the country being effectively governed by the rule of law.
“We also want to impress it on the statutory security services like the police, the DSS, the Civil Defence and others to maintain water-tight vigilance required to protect the peace-loving people of the state at this particular point in time in the history of the 34-year-old state.”
