A four-storey building under construction at Jabi District in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, on Friday, collapsed, killing many people while trapping several others.
An investigation by Tribune online showed that the building which had been abandoned to rot for over 15 years, allegedly became an abode for some homeless people who were forced to quit after the owner recently resumed construction works.
Witnesses told our correspondent that the building collapsed on both construction workers alongside some women and children who were selling at the site.
According to one of the witnesses, Stephen Nmaduabuchi, some corpses were recovered from the ruins of the collapsed building.
Meanwhile, the NEMA, FCTA officials, the Police and other law enforcement agents were at the scene of the incident at the time of filing this report.
It will be recalled that the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) recently demolished an uncompleted two storey building at the elite zone of Gwarinpa, which was said to have been showing the signs of partial collapse.
