School feeding: Osun hires 2,470 food vendors

In a bid to improve school enrolment and banish hunger, among others, Osun State Government has hired 2,470 food vendors to roll off the Osun Home Grown School Feeding Programme, O’Meals.

Speaking at the official flag-off ceremony of the programme, Governor Ademola Adeleke said the programme aims at improving the health status, cognitive, affective and psychomotor dormains of the pupils.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Teslim Igbalaye, the governor said the school feeding programme apart from banishing hunger will also promote local agricultural businesses and boost the economy.

He said the programme which will feed pupils in primaries 1-3 will positively impact on fighting short term hunger by ensuring the provision of at least, one daily nutritious meal in every school day of the term.

While congratulating the 2, 470 food vendors engaged in the scheme, he urged them to reciprocate the gesture by ensuring that they discharge their duties conscientiously at all times.

“Together we can create a society where every child has access to quality education and nutritious meals”, he stated.

In his address, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Osun Home Grown School Feeding Programme,(O’Meals) Hon. Ayodele Oluwaseyi appreciated the Governor for his commitment at ensuring the school feeding programme takes off.

She urged the food vendors and aggregators to see their service as a call to duty, hence the need to do their job with all sense of responsibility and accountability for the aims of the programme to be achieved.
