Agbeku community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State has accused the administration of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of abandoning them to relentless bandit attacks, which have left the once-thriving town completely deserted.
In a Save-Our-Soul (SOS) press statement issued on Thursday and signed by the National General Secretary of the Agbeku Community Development Association (ACDA), Dr. Olajide Loqman Lawal, the community condemned what it described as the state government’s “glaring indifference” to their deepening security crisis.
According to the ACDA, Agbeku has suffered five major bandit attacks in the last two years, the most recent of which occurred on Sunday, November 30, 2025.
During the latest invasion, a community leader, Chief Jimoh Atanda, was killed, a woman was shot and critically injured, two residents were abducted, and several shops were looted, details documented in the community’s report.
The violent incident triggered widespread panic, prompting residents to flee in large numbers and leaving the community completely deserted.
The ACDA added that despite sending formal notifications to the Executive Governor, the Kwara State Police Command, the Governor’s security aides, and the Ifelodun Local Government Chairman before the latest attack, no meaningful response was received from state authorities.
“The most worrisome thing is that the Kwara State Government has largely abandoned us to our plight,” the statement read. “Our empty community remains vulnerable to hoodlums and vandals who may want to exploit this situation to wreak more havoc on our abandoned houses.”
The association, however, appreciated the Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government for personally visiting the community, attending the Fidau prayers of the slain Chief, and providing financial support to victims.
It noted that beyond this gesture, the state government has not taken any steps to secure the area or encourage the displaced residents to return.
The ACDA called on Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to urgently deploy security operatives to Agbeku, restore the long-abandoned police post, and implement measures that will guarantee the safe return of residents. It warned that without immediate intervention, the town risks being “wiped off from the map of Kwara State.”
As of the time of filing this report, the Kwara State Government has not issued any official response to the SOS message from the Agbeku community.
