Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has cleared 18 of the state’s 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs), while Labour Party won Amuwo Odofin, as the state Independent National Electoral Commission awaits the result from Eti Osa LGA, where the election was done today.
In the results collated thus far, Sanwo-Olu won all 18 LGAs by a wide margin.
According to the results, APC won Lagos Island with 37, 760 votes; Apapa 21,007; Epe 29,614; Agege 35,845; Ajeromi Ifelodun 39,798; Ikeja 32, 273; Mushin 52, 249; Surulere 42, 451.
Other LGAs won by APC are Ibeju Lekki 19, 369; Ifako Ijaiye 38, 682; Badagry 41, 482; Lagos Mainland 26, 021; Alimosho 83,631; Ojo 30, 797; Ikorodu 64, 697; Kosofe 49, 344; Oshodi 36, 792 and Somolu 36, 783.
Labour Party, however, managed to win Amuwo-Odofin with 34, 860. At the LGA, Sanwo-Olu came second with 17, 576 votes.
It was a total failure for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos as the party thus far has failed to win any LGA.
Meanwhile, INEC Returning Officers lamented rise in political thuggery in virtually all the LGAs, which resulted in ballot box snatching, attacks on staffs and cancellation of results in some of the local government areas.
Earlier, the Lagos Resident Electoral Commissioner, Olusegun Agbaje, informed that despite several threats that have been sending to him from some quarters, he remained unperturbed.
According to him, the election should be seen just as a contest between two brothers, “not a do or die affair. So many threats from some quarters, but nobody can threaten me. Politicians should know that INEC is to mid-wife elections. We don’t and can’t manipulate anything.”
