Respect elders

Reflection for the day

By Olubunmi Adebayo

One of the old time values fast disappearing in our time and generation today is giving due respect to elders.

Several young ones don’t believe there is any elder anywhere to be respected. Too bad, you may want to say.

Gone are the days that the younger ones honour their elders and obey them. And in truth, those who honour their elders are simply sowing a worthy seed into their future.

Our young ones must always be told that :

  • They could be gifted. They could be brilliant.
  • They could be knowledgeable.
  • Indeed they could be destined for greatness in life.
  • But one sure thing that will facilitate the actualisation of these is the respect for their elders.
  • Remember, those who made it a duty to honour the elders, end up living to become elders themselves.

It is a common thing today for the younger ones NOT to defer in any way to their elders.

It is a regular practice today for some young ones NOT to greet elderly people around them at all.

It has become normal for the young ones of today to work towards outsmarting and outshining their leaders.

Most young people hardly show due courtesies to their elders anymore.

Know it that the reason why some young ones don’t go far today is because of these observations.

A young man or woman that will achieve success which will be enduring, must run away from disparaging, dishonoring, disrespecting and disgracing his or her elders.

It is the way to go: the way to the top.

Cheers
