Re: Plea to Governor Adeleke on prerogative of mercy and making known facts of the matter to the public

Opinion Osun State

By Nelson Fadoju

Thanks for more revelation of the two convicted men in Osun State that the matters are about Armed Robbery and Stealing.

Surely, the law must take it’s rightful course under the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and Criminal law. But….,

There is also a separation of powers among the three-tiers of governments in Nigeria. However, there are laws as well as exceptions to laws.

Prerogative of Mercy is also part of the laws. It is based on this that many Nigerians pleaded and are still pleading to Governor Ademola Adeleke to “temper Justice with Mercy” for the two prisoners ordered to be hanged and for the prerogative of mercy. The Judge that decided the case was right.

Since the laws also allow the Governor to apply wisdom, Justice and mercy, the Executive Arm of Government as well as the Judiciary did not violate the law now that the facts of the matter are clearly made known to the general public.

We appreciate all concerned Citizens of Nigeria on this matter.

We are grateful to His Excellency Governor Ademola Adeleke for following the rules of law by giving an order to the State Commissioner for Justice to study the Case and make his recommendation known based on law.

We call the attention of all Nigerian Citizens to always look before they leap in all human activities and be careful of the people they are moving with in the Society.

They should note that the Law is an Ass and it is also blind.

Criminals are duty bound to face the law from time to time while justice must always come with fairness and equity as evidenced in the symbol of the “Justice Lady”.

I thank you all.
