RE: Fabricated and Politically Motivated Misrepresentation of My Comments

Opinion

By Steve Otaloro

My attention has been drawn to a publication circulating under the headline “Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa Was Not Prepared For The Job.” I wish to state categorically that the report is a gross distortion of my comments and a deliberate political misrepresentation.

For the avoidance of doubt, as a seasoned media professional and public relations practitioner with years of experience in political communication, I would not make reckless or self-indicting remarks capable of misrepresenting facts or undermining constitutional governance.

What I clearly stated during the radio interview, consistent with constitutional realities, was that leadership was entrusted to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa by circumstance and by law following the unfortunate passing of the late Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, under whom he served loyally as Deputy Governor. At no time did I suggest that the Governor was incompetent, unfit, or incapable of providing leadership.

Let me further state, for the purpose of clarity and record, that my consistent and well-known position has always been that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has demonstrated clear commitment to the advancement of Ondo State and possesses the capacity, competence, and leadership depth required to take the state to greater heights. This position has never been hidden. It has been openly expressed in my various media engagements, interviews, and news features over time. It forms part of my professional hallmark and reflects my deep appreciation and my confidence in the administrative style, vision, and commendable leadership of Dr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa as Governor of Ondo State.

The attempt to twist a sober acknowledgment of an unforeseen constitutional transition into a narrative of “unpreparedness” is therefore a clear example of political opportunism and media bad faith by one Leye Igbagbo of the ADA Party, who appears intent on using my name for political relevance and media optics.

While I strongly disagree with this misrepresentation and the motives behind it, I wish to place on record my respect for the ADA Party as a registered political party operating within Nigeria’s democratic framework. Political pluralism is essential to democratic growth. However, political engagement must be anchored on truth, accuracy, and responsible communication. Deliberate misquotation and distortion do not serve democracy or the electorate.

I also wish to make it clear that I will not dignify manufactured controversies with prolonged engagement, as such reactions only serve the agenda of those seeking undue attention. This stance should not be misconstrued as admission, but rather understood as deliberate and strategic restraint.

Let me state unequivocally that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa assumed office through constitutional order, has continued governance within that mandate, and remains firmly committed to delivering the dividends of democracy to the good people of Ondo State.

Any narrative suggesting otherwise is false, mischievous, and politically motivated.
