Ex-Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki has appealed to the disputing members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to sheathe their swords, and reunite to rebuild the party in the overall interest of Nigeria.

He made the call in a heartfelt statement shared via his official Facebook page on Wednesday, following his participation in a PDP Consultative Conference convened by one of the party’s founding fathers, Prof Jerry Gana.

Saraki wrote, “It was an honour to join the Founding Fathers and stakeholders of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party, today at the Consultative Conference”.

Noting the PDP’s legacy of national growth, he stressed that Nigeria rose to become Africa’s largest economy and achieved a stronger sense of unity during its 16-year rule,

He appealed, “Let’s not abandon a ship in need of repairs. If you must leave, let it be on ideology—not anger.

“The ultimate goal must be to put Nigeria first and rise above the propaganda designed to divide us as a party.”

He commended Prof Gana for rallying party stakeholders for what he described as a “family meeting,” and reaffirmed his personal commitment to the PDP, saying he would never give up on the party.

His words, “The PDP was built on solid foundations. Its founders handed it over to us with trust. God forbid that we become the generation that lets it fall apart.

“I urge all true patriots of the PDP to agree that for the greater good of Nigeria, leaving is not an option”.
