Police IG orders full enforcement of southern Kaduna curfew

Police Inspector General, Mr Mohammed Adamu has directed the Kaduna State police boss to ensure full enforcement of the curfew imposed by the State Government on Southern Kaduna owing to recent killings and violence in the area.

In a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja, DCP Frank Mba, on Monday, he also directed the Commissioner of Police, CP to ensure optimal deployment of human and material assets of the Intervention Squad on ground in the State to safeguard lives and property of people in the communities.

“The CP is to personally coordinate the operations of the Intervention Squad in carrying out collective and holistic tasks of ensuring peace and safety in the communities.

“The Squad comprises: the Police Mobile Force (PMF), Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), Police Special Forces, Detectives/Intelligence Operatives as well as personnel of the Kaduna State Police Command, the Military and other security agencies.

“The IGP commiserates with the people of Kaduna State, particularly those who have lost their loved ones and property as a result of the crises.

“He assures that the Force will do everything within its powers and means to ensure that peace is restored in the affected areas.

“Meanwhile, the IGP enjoins the people of Kaduna State to cooperate with the Police, the Military and other law enforcement agencies as they carry out the full enforcement of the curfew amongst other measures directed at ensuring their safety.

“He however warns troublemakers in the State to desist forthwith from acts of violence and lawlessness,” the statement read.

Women in their hundreds had last week taken to the streets naked, to register their displeasure over the killings.

They said the continued killings had taken away their bread winners, parents, sisters, brothers, husbands and children, adding that today majority of them are widows.

They also lamented that their farm lands have equally been taken over by their attackers who have denied them access for fear of being killed.

The angry women, who aside protesting naked, cried profusely and rolled themselves on the ground demanding for justice on behalf of their killed loved ones.

It would be recalled that communities in Zango Kataf local government area have been under series of attack leading to killings of innocent people.

Following the crisis, killings and destruction of properties in the troubled area, Kaduna State government had imposed curfew in the area.

The protesting women called on relevant stakeholders, government, security agencies and international community to come to their aid and save them from further killings and destruction of their properties.

“We are also calling on government to assist us in going back to our farms which is our major source of income, but above all to help stop the killings and bring the perpetrators to book.”
