The police in Ekiti State Police have confirmed the arrest of two persons in connection with the kidnapping of an ex-Commissioner for Agriculture in the state, Mr. Folorunsho Olabode and two other persons.
Police spokesman in the state, Mr. Sunday Abutu, said the suspects; Yakubu Aliyu and Dani Gide were arrested by the command’s operatives in a forest at Ilemesho Ekiti, Ikole Local Government area of the state.
He said during interrogation, the suspects confessed to be members of a kidnapping syndicate that abducted the former commissioner and two other persons within Oye local government area of the state.
He identified other gang members as Danjo, Bello, Sidi, Babi, Ali, Wada and Danjo, who he said are currently on the wanted list of the police.
He said two members of the syndicate Bello Mohammed and Abubakar Suleiman were earlier arrested by the operatives of the Rapid Respond Squad (RSS) in the Ilemesho axis of the state.
Olabode was kidnapped while serving as Commissioner for Agriculture, in the state by gunmen on May 5, 2020 along Isan-Iludun road at Ilejemeje Local Government Area. In the process, a councilor in his car whose name was not given was also shot dead.
The suspects were remanded at the Federal Correctional Centre, Ado-Ekiti.
Olabode hails from Iye Ekiti, in Ilejemeje council area of the state.
