The police have arrested six suspected cultists believed to have been terrorizing residents of Osun State.
A statement by the state police spokesman, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the arrests were made in separate operations by the state command’s Anti-Cultism Unit, acting on credible intelligence.
It said that on August 21, 2025, during a student union week event at an unnamed higher institution in the state, two suspected cultists, both aged 29, were apprehended.
Both suspects reportedly confessed to being members of the Aiye Confraternity and Buccaneer Confraternity (Alora), respectively.
The statement said that in a related development, on August 19, 2025, four additional suspects, aged between 20 and 26, were arrested in Okuku Town for cult-related activities. Those arrested include:
Ojelabi confirmed that the suspects admitted to being members of the Aiye Confraternity and had been linked to violent acts in the community.
Meanwhile, in another operation, the police received intelligence about armed hoodlums suspected to be members of the Eiye Confraternity, led by another suspect, who were said to be terrorizing residents of Gbeja area, Oke-Baale, in Osogbo.
Although the suspects fled on sighting security operatives, police recovered the following items from their hideout:
One cut-to-size single-barrel gun; one cut-to-size double-barrel gun; five sharp cutlasses; one axe; and three live cartridges
Ojelabi disclosed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects. He added that those already in custody would be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
The Police Command urged students and youths in the state to steer clear of cultism and other criminal activities, warning that the full weight of the law would be brought against anyone found culpable.
