The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has postponed its governorship primaries earlier scheduled for Tuesday, December 2, 2025, citing an escalating leadership crisis at the national level that has disrupted key pre-primary processes.
State Chairman of the party, Hon. Sunday Bisi, disclosed this on Monday while addressing journalists, party members, and stakeholders on recent developments affecting the party’s preparations for the 2026 governorship election.
Bisi reaffirmed that Governor Ademola Adeleke had fulfilled all requirements under the party’s timetable for the nomination process.
According to him, the governor purchased and submitted the expression of interest and nomination forms within the official window of October 13–25, 2025, and subsequently appeared before the PDP Screening Committee on October 30, where he was duly cleared and issued a Certificate of Clearance.
However, the state chairman explained that shortly after these steps were completed, the internal disputes within the PDP national leadership worsened.
The suspension and counter-suspension of key national officers—who are central to the conduct of congresses and primaries as well as the transmission of candidates’ names to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)—created uncertainty that disrupted the party’s schedule.
As a result, the statutory ad-hoc ward and local government congresses slated for November 24 and 29, respectively, failed to hold. These congresses are responsible for electing delegates who would vote at the primaries.
Bisi noted that many of the issues leading to the disruptions are currently before various courts across the country.
“In light of the foregoing, it has become inevitable, indeed unavoidable, that the PDP governorship primaries earlier slated for Tuesday, December 2, 2025, can no longer hold as scheduled,” he said.
He further clarified that Governor Adeleke remains the only aspirant who purchased and submitted nomination documents and was screened in line with party rules.
Bisi revealed that the governor “may no longer be interested” in seeking the PDP ticket unless the crisis is resolved through a process recognized by INEC within its stipulated timeline.
The state chairman emphasized that while the conduct of primaries is the exclusive responsibility of the PDP National Secretariat, the state chapter owes it to members and the people of Osun State to remain transparent about the situation.
He assured party faithful that efforts are underway—both at the state and national levels—to ensure a lawful and timely resolution of the crisis so that the party can reposition itself ahead of the 2026 election.
Bisi concluded by thanking members of the press and reaffirming the party’s commitment to stability, unity, and due process.
