The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has shared his humble beginnings, recalling how he walked barefoot through secondary school and came from a village once absent on Nigeria’s map.
Speaking at the 50th anniversary celebration of the All Christians Fellowship Mission (ACFM) on Friday in Abuja, Adeboye reflected on his early struggles in ministry, when resources were scarce and faith was his only anchor.
He described God as the “ultimate promoter,” urging Nigerians not to be discouraged by present economic hardships.
“Your promotion is not in the hand of man; your promotion is in the hand of God,” he said.
Adeboye praised ACFM’s founder, Rev. Williams Okoye, for his steadfastness, describing him as a true servant of God and a source of inspiration.
In his remarks, Rev. Okoye, who also served as Aso Rock chaplain, recounted the church’s modest beginnings in a makeshift “batcher” and its growth into a global mission with branches in Nigeria and countries such as Rwanda, Uganda, and Burkina Faso.
He said the church’s 50-year journey had been sustained by God’s grace, noting that ACFM had pastored two Nigerian presidents without scandal and played a role in promoting national transformation.
Former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim, in his goodwill message, thanked the church for its impact on his spiritual journey and congratulated it on its golden jubilee.
Other speakers, including former church elder Ifeanyi Odedo and the anniversary planning chairman, Pastor Titus Omolewa, also testified to the church’s spiritual and societal contributions.
The celebration featured three days of praises and thanksgiving, with members acknowledging God’s faithfulness over the past five decades.
