Team Osun delivered a remarkable performance at the 9th National Youth Games in Asaba, bringing home an impressive haul of 25 medals including five gold, four silver, and 16 bronze.
For many of the young athletes, it was their first taste of national competition, and they made it count.
From the track to the pool, the gym floor to the boxing ring, Osun’s youth showcased extraordinary talent, determination, and team spirit, proving they are not just the future of Nigerian sports—they are ready now.
Among the standout moments was Adekunle Uthman’s inspiring gold-medal win in para-athletics. In gymnastics, Semilore Adeoye shone brightly, earning one gold and two bronze medals through her captivating routines.
The basketball team’s chemistry and teamwork carried them to gold, dominating the court and outclassing their rivals. At the table tennis arena, Umar Ayoola became a crowd favorite after winning gold in the doubles with Quyum Olawuyi, and clinching silver in the singles event.
Taekwondo added to the medal count with Raji Naila capturing gold, while Owolabi Kareemat and Oladele Mubarak each fought their way to bronze medals.
In swimming, Beatrice Ward made waves with two silver medals and a bronze, while Pelumi Adeosun showed grit and consistency, earning three bronze medals for her efforts.
Weightlifting and para-powerlifting further demonstrated Osun’s sporting depth, as Zainab Oladimeji, Opeyemi Muminat Jamiu, and Adegboye Habib all stood proudly on the podium.
Even in traditional sports, Osun made its mark. Mustapha Agbaje secured a bronze medal in Ayo Olopon, keeping the state’s cultural heritage alive. Meanwhile, in the boxing ring, Busari Aliyah and Lawal Mujizat battled fiercely to add more medals to Osun’s tally.
With this impressive showing, Team Osun has firmly established itself as a force to reckon with, signaling a bright future for sports in the state.
