Osun workers join nationwide strike despite tight security

Workers in Osun State on Tuesday joined the nationwide strike called by their umbrella unions

The strike which began midnight, held even as armed security men were placed in strategic locations across Osogbo the Osun State Capital to prevent a possible break down of Law and Order .

At about 7.30am, some public schools shut down their operation in compliance with the NLC directive while students who came to school were seen returning back home .

Only students of private schools were seen in their respective schools.

Few banks whivh opened to their customers were forced to close while customers used ATM cards to do their transactions.

At Osogbo High School and Fakunle High School in Osogbo, students were seen turning back as some teachers were seen discussing the development.

A teacher who refused to identify himself said they were following the directive of NLC as what they are fighting for affects all and sundry.

He said “We all are suffering from economic hardship of this government which has been seen to be insensitive to the plight of Nigerian workers after subsidy was removed.

“Some labour Unions visited our school asking us to shut down and we gladly obeyed them because what they are fighting for is in the benefit of us all.”

The acting State chairperson of NLC, Modupe Oyedele, said workers in the state complied with the directive of the national body .

“Workers in Osun complied fully. Osun is in full compliance with the strike directive.”

As at the time of filing this report, armed policemen ,Civil Defence officers were seen stationed at popular Olaiya area in Osogbo monitoring the movement of the people.
