Osun warns land encroachers

Osun State Government has warned those illegally encroaching on lands belonging to the State water sector to desist or be ready to face the law.

It warned through the commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Sunday Oroniyi, who said reports had reached his office about encroachers in the Ede Headworks Dam area, Akanka Ede Reservoir area, Iwo water works area, Kajola Dam area, Okefia Commercial Office and Esa-Odo Dam.

Oroniyi who addressed journalists in his office at the government secretariat, expressed concern over the activities of some individuals who have refused to stop the unlawful occupation of government-owned properties.

He stressed that the encroached lands are crucial for the development and maintenance of water resources, which directly impact the provision of clean water to communities across the state.

He added that the government invested in the lands for future projects that will improve water supply and sanitation in the state.

The Commissioner warned that the state government would not hesitate to take strict legal actions against defaulters who persist in trespassing on the lands.

He warned encroachers to vacate the properties immediately to avoid legal consequences.

He called on community leaders and local authorities to assist the government by reporting any suspicious activities around water sector properties, emphasizing that collective efforts are necessary to safeguard critical resources.
