Osun trains nurses, midwives, community health workers

Osun State Primary Health Care Development Board in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health with support from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is holding a seven-day training for nurses, midwives, and community health workers across the state on Essential Newborn Care.

The workshop segmented into two sections was flagged off by the Executive Secretary, Primary Health Care Development Board Dr. Oluwole Fabiyi, at Galaxy Hotel, Conference Room, along Osogbo West bye pass, Ring road, Osogbo.

In his welcome address, he stated that training healthcare workers is part of measures put in place by the Ademola Adeleke-led government to promote quality and accessible healthcare for the residents.

The workshop which drew participants from different Primary Health Care facilities in the state had nurses, midwives, community health officers, and community health extension workers on the ground for the intensive capacity-building training.

Fabiyi appreciated Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, the Federal Ministry of Health, and UNICEF, for their support for the training.

Representative of UNICEF, Mrs. Elohor Micheal-Ezeh in her remarks, admonished the participants to replicate the knowledge acquired in the workshop to their fellow officers in their respective healthcare centres.

Prof Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe, a consultant pediatrician/neonatologist at Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital (OAUTH), Ile-ife donated an Artificial Resuscitator to all the participants.

The Director of Medical Services and Disease Control, Osun State Primary Health Care Development who was also the Coordinator of the program,Dr Oluyemi Ogundun urged healthcare workers across the thirty Local Governments in the state to work assiduously in their various Primary Health Care Centers to complement government’s support in the Health Sector

The seven-day training has four days devoted to the training of Nurses and Midwives on full Essential newborn care while the remaining three days centred on Modified Essential newborn care for Community Health Extension Workers
