Osun State Government has suspended all official dealings with the state’s chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) following an ongoing leadership crisis and controversies surrounding the organisation.

It announcing the suspension in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. Kolapo Alimi, who expressed concern over the escalating leadership feud and allegations bordering on the management of resources allocated to the state chapter of the council.

The commissioner said the state government has constituted a three-man investigative committee made up of independent and unaffiliated nominees to review previous engagements with the NYCN and examine the issues currently in contention.

Alimi stated that pending the outcome of the investigation, the state government has resolved to fully implement the directive issued by the Federal Ministry of Youth Development to all ministries and stakeholders in the youth sector in late 2025.

He recalled that the Federal Ministry had earlier communicated the withdrawal of the NYCN’s Certificate of Registration by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and subsequently disengaged from the national leadership of the organisation due to prolonged infighting, factionalisation and internal confrontations.

“In view of the similar crisis currently affecting the Osun State chapter of the NYCN, the state government has deemed it necessary to suspend all dealings with the body until the investigation is concluded and clarity is restored,” the statement said.

While noting the apparent politicisation of the youth sector issues by opposition elements, the commissioner assured the public that measures already put in place by the state government would restore normalcy, transparency and accountability within the youth sector.
