Osun State Government has rescued a seven-year-old girl gruesomely abused by her father’s sister (aunt) who has been acting as her foster parent.

The rescue operation was carried out by the State Ministry of Women, Children and Social Affairs in collaboration with the Osun State Police Command.

The Commissioner for Women, Children and Social Affairs, Barr. Olubukola Olaboopo said the condition in which the girl was rescued was the height of wickedness.

According to her, “The condition we found the girl spoke of the highest level of wickedness, left to rotten and fed once a week or once in two weeks. She was abandoned in the backyard of the house in a tattered refuse-dump environment.”

She revealed that the girl was found in a weakened state, adding that she had become skinny, too weak to stand and with broken bones.

While appreciating the Osun State Police for their support and commitment, she assured that the ministry would continue to uphold the rights and protect all children in the state under every circumstance.

She also explained that the state government has taken custody and had promised to shelter, educate, feed and take care of the girl’s health.

“At the Ministry, with the kind support of the Governor and his wife, we shall continue to uphold the rights of our children in the state and protect them under every circumstance.

“We have taken custody of the girl as government would shelter her, educate and feed her and take care of her health,” she stated.
