Osun State Government has commenced the evacuation of broken down articulated vehicles on major roads of the towns and cities of the state.
This is to ensure free flow of traffic and protect lives and properties of the residents
The operation which kicked off at the State Secretariat will see to the evacuation of all broken down vehicles seen to be blocking the roads thereby constituting nuisance and an attendant risk to lives of residents of the state.
Other activities which will be carried out through the exercise include: monitoring of road parking revenue control, generating data for line parking revenue, setting up of offices to operate and mobilize revenue for the State as well as observing decorum in traffic enforcement management among others.
Speaking at the official flag-off of the operation, held at the government secretariat, Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Sesan Oyedele said the exercise will be carried out with human face.
Represented at the occasion by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr Isiaka Yahaya , explained that, the intent of the State government is to create convenience, comfort and ensure the safety of lives and properties.
Speaking further on the operation tagged: ‘State Transportation Management, Parking and Traffic Enforcement’, the Commissioner stressed that part of the objectives of the exercise is to also identify large parking lots as well as pavement for parking.
“We want to have limited record of carnages on our roads, both at night and day. We don’t want a situation where people will use their broken down vehicles to disturb people’s livelihood by stopping from moving from one point to the other.
“These broken down articulated vehicles pose huge risk to lives as a lot of accidents have been recorded of people who ram into them especially at night. The Governor does not want to tolerate this careless act anymore, hence his approval for the commencement of this operation’. Oyedele explained.
