The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has expressed deep concern over the renewed wave of violence in Ikire, culminating in the killing on Saturday of a young resident, Adesile Seebu.

It described the incident as a painful and heartbreaking moment for the community and all peace-loving citizens of the state.

In a statement by the Party’s Director of Media, Hezekiah Oladele Bamiji (HOB), the PDP decried the deteriorating security situation allegedly being orchestrated by a popular supporter of an All Progressives Congress governorship aspirant in the state (names withheld).

The party described the attack as a “deliberate assault on the peace of Ikire and an affront to the fundamental right of its people to live without fear.”

According to the statement, the suspect, who was declared wanted during the 2023 general elections for violent activities—has resurfaced and is now linked to several renewed assaults on residents.

The PDP expressed shock that an individual with such a troubling record was recently sighted in the company of the Managing Director of NIWA during his visit to Irewole/Isokan Local Government, an event reportedly marred by harassment and assault on innocent residents.

  1. The statement noted that while the people of Ikire have shown commendable patience and restraint, their safety continues to be threatened by elements believed to be loyal to the AMBO group, whose activities appear “emboldened and unchecked.”

“We are raising a heartfelt Save-Our-Soul call on behalf of the people of Ikire. This is not about politics; it is about human life, community peace, and the dignity of people who simply want to live in harmony,” the statement read.

“We urge the Nigeria Police Force, DSS, NSCDC, and all relevant security agencies to immediately intervene—arrest the perpetrators, and restore calm—before this degenerates into a full-blown communal crisis.”

The PDP further called on security authorities to investigate the network supporting Ojuyobo’s violent activities and ensure that no individual or group is shielded from accountability.

“At a time when Osun is enjoying renewed peace and purposeful governance, it is unacceptable for criminal elements to plunge communities into chaos,” the statement added.

“The people of Ikire deserve justice for Adesile and protection from further aggression. The time to act is now.”
