Osun PDP primaries: Party warns aspirants against indiscipline

Osun State

As the Osun State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic begins its primaries to elect its councillorship candidates in the forthcoming local government election, the party has warned aspirants against indiscipline.

The state chairman of the party, Mr Sunday Bisi who handed down the warning said the party will not tolerate any act capable of undermining the process.

He enjoined leaders and members to conduct themselves in an orderly and peaceful manner, to set the right standards for other political parties struggling to engage in similar exercises.

According to him, PDP is set to hold the councilorship primaries on Saturday, of August 17th, 2024, beginning from 10 am across the 332 wards in the state.

A statement by him on Friday urged aspirants and their supporters to cooperate with the electoral officers and the security operatives who are scheduled to oversee the primaries, warning that the party will not treat any act of violence during or after the exercise with kid gloves.

Also, the chairmanship primaries of the party will be held on Monday, 19th of August 2021 in all the 30 local government headquarters in the state.

The chairmanship primaries will conclude the process of electing candidates for the party, thereby putting the ruling party in good stead to go ahead with other preparations for the February 2025 local government election.

“I urge supporters of all prospective candidates of our party to avail themselves with the dictates of the law and guidelines of our party in their conducts in the primaries tomorrow and Monday. There is no room for violence of any form in a family like that of the PDP and especially a constitutional exercise of this nature.

“The party’s leadership has put necessary measures in place to ensure a smooth exercise tomorrow, in line with the directive of our leader, His Excellency, Asiwaju Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke at the last stakeholders meeting.

“We are confident that this exercise will produce the best candidates and ensure victory for our great party in the coming local government election in the state”

“As a disciplined party operating on the threshold of the rule of law, aspirants found wanting in the guidelines of the party, electoral act, and the constitution of the country in conducting party primaries, especially on issues bordering on improper conduct, such aspirants stand disqualified by the law, without minding whose ox is gored”, Bisi warned. “
