A staff member of Boluwaduro Local Government Area in Osun State has been arrested by security operatives over an alleged attempt to steal government properties from the council secretariat.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Media Assistant to the Executive Chairman of Boluwaduro Local Government, Sahedd Omokanye, the arrest followed reports that the staff member was allegedly attempting to smuggle government-owned items and sensitive official documents out of the council premises.
The statement explained that the suspect was intercepted by security personnel while allegedly trying to move the items through the perimeter fence of the local government secretariat, raising suspicion among officers on duty.
Acting promptly, the security operatives reportedly stopped her and recovered several government properties found in her possession.
“Following credible intelligence and careful monitoring, security personnel intercepted the suspect and recovered government items and official documents allegedly being taken out of the secretariat without authorisation,” the statement said.
It added that the suspect was subsequently handed over to the police for further interrogation and investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and to establish whether other individuals were involved.
“She has since been taken to the police station for further interrogation and investigation in line with due process,” Omokanye noted.
Meanwhile, the local government management has reiterated its commitment to protecting public property and ensuring accountability within the council.
The administration warned that it would not tolerate acts capable of undermining public trust or sabotaging the smooth running of local government affairs.
The incident occurred shortly after local government workers resumed duties after an 11-month work stoppage.
The workers had stayed away from their offices due to a prolonged crisis that engulfed the councils after an Appeal Court judgment delivered in February 2025.
The development has further heightened calls for vigilance and proper safeguarding of government assets as normalcy gradually returns to local government administration across the state.
