Ahead of the forthcoming Local Government elections, the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission(OSSIEC) has sworn in Electoral Officers (EOs), and Assistant Electoral Officers (AEOs).
Performing the swearing-in, the Chairman of the Commission, Barr. Hashim Abioye said the move became necessary to achieve the election goals.
He reiterated the Commission’s commitment to delivering free, credible, and acceptable elections come February 2025.
Addressing the Electoral Officers as well as their Assistants, the OSSIEC Chairman charged them to be focused and dedicated to their duty at all times, stressing that they are now duty-bound to the Commission.
While explaining that they owe the entire State a duty to be faithful before, during, and after the LG elections, he urged the officers to bring any observation that needs clarification to OSSIEC.
Speaking on local government autonomy, the legal practitioner stated that no other body has the constitutional competence to conduct local government elections other than the State electoral body.
According to the OSSIEC Boss “the commission will properly follow due process, just as it has been doing, we will ensure we deliver credibly to lead the government at the grassroots level.
“We are determined to conduct an election that will go into history books, I assure everyone that it will be an election that no one will be able to fault.
