The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has condemned the intervention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers from the state in the House of Representatives regarding the lingering controversy over local government allocations.
In a statement signed by Kola Olabisi, Director of Media and Information of the Osun APC, the party accused the PDP lawmakers of acting as “meddlesome interlopers” in a matter concerning the reinstatement of APC-elected local government chairmen and councillors.
This follows a letter addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by eight PDP members of the National Assembly from Osun, alleging that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) had withheld allocations to Osun’s 30 local governments for four consecutive months.
Describing the lawmakers’ claims as “false and misleading,” the APC maintained that the CBN has been working with the legally reinstated council executives—those recognized by the February 2025 Court of Appeal judgment—to process and disburse funds in line with the law.
The statement criticized the PDP caucus for, in its view, exceeding their constitutional role and spreading misinformation. “Their effort to twist the real issue has further exposed them as legislators bent on misleading the public,” it read.
The party also took a swipe at the lawmakers over their performance in their respective constituencies, alleging they have little to show for the billions allocated to them for constituency projects.
“They should first account for their projects before laying claims to moral or legal authority to intervene in local government matters,” the statement added.
The APC reiterated that local government councils are responsible for both LG-specific and constituency-level development, and cautioned the lawmakers to respect the constitutional separation of powers.
