The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has called on the general public to disregard what it called baseless claims of certain individuals allegedly masquerading as local government chairmen regarding the ongoing issue of federal allocations to local government councils in the state.
In a statement in Osogbo on Friday by its Director of Media and Information, Mr kolawole Olabisi, the party urged the general public to disregard alleged misinformation being peddled out by people it described as local government impostors.
Earlier on Friday, according to the statement, a group of faceless individuals, under the guise of “Leadership of ALGON, Osun State,” held a press conference in Osogbo, allegedly attempting to mislead the public on the matter.
The statement said, “Ordinarily, the APC would not dignify an unsigned and anonymous statement — which carries no legal or moral weight with a response. However, given that a lie told repeatedly may eventually be mistaken for the truth, we consider it necessary to set the record straight.
“The Court of Appeal judgment delivered on 10th February 2025, which explicitly reinstated the duly elected APC local government chairmen and councillors, remains clear, binding, and unambiguous. This judgment is easily understood even by non-lawyers.
“According to the law, the reinstated APC-elected local government chairmen remain the only legally recognized executives in charge of local government administration across Osun State.
“Furthermore, the only legitimate and recognized State Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Osun is Hon. Abiodun Idowu, who is officially acknowledged by the national headquarters of ALGON in Abuja.
“It is telling that those behind today’s misleading press conference failed to sign their statement or identify themselves, clearly aware of the legal consequences of their impersonation. Their cowardice and deceit speak volumes.
“We therefore urge members of the public to ignore the falsehoods being peddled by these impostors parading themselves as ALGON leaders in Osun. Their claims are diversionary, baseless, and completely devoid of merit.
“Moreover, one would expect that if these individuals truly represented any legitimate interest, they would know better than to speak on a matter that is currently before a court of competent jurisdiction.
“As the saying goes, “You cannot give what you do not have.” When leadership is founded on fraud and falsehood, it becomes not only illegitimate but irredeemably flawed.”
