Osun State Chapter of the Labour Party has suspended with immediate effect 11 of its members over alleged gross misconduct and anti-party activities.
It described those allegedly working against the interest of the party and its success, and that of its presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Gregory Obi at the ongoing presidential tribunal as bandits.
State Chairman of the party, Prince Adebayo Bello announced the suspension during a press conference held at the party secretariat in Osogbo yesterday.
Those suspended are chairmen of the local government chapters.
According to him, the party is currently facing some challenges at the national level, and the crisis is snowballing into the state. However, he stated the Osun chapter of the party remains united.
He said: “We remain united despite the shenanigans of some disgruntled elements in the party. Some members of the party have been taking advantage of the crisis at the national level to cause confusion and division in the Osun State chapter of the party.
“We equally acknowledge the presence of members with inordinate ambition which is gradually leading to the factionalization of the party.
“The party should note that the entire drama of indignity going on in the party is being sponsored by electoral bandits whose aim is to use fake Labour party National Working Committee to scuttle the weighty petition of Mr. Peter Obi tabled before the Presidential Election Tribunal”.
According to Adebayo, the intention of those allegedly creating a parallel structure at the national level is to scuttle the legal struggle of reclaiming the mandate of Mr. Peter Obi and Dr. Datti Baba-Ahmed in the 2023 presidential election.”
Noting that if the activities of those alleged undemocratic persons are not checked, this would weaken the party structure in the state or collapse it totally.
He said that based on these realities, the State Executive Council of the party after its meeting reaffirmed its loyalty to the Barrister Julius Abure-led National Executive.
He said that all appointments and decisions made by another body on behalf of the party in the state are null and void, and of no effect, stating that he remains the chairman of the party in Osun State
His words “The chairman of LP remains Prince Adebayo Bello. Any other person parading himself as chairman is committing impersonation and must face the full wrath of the law.
Adebayo said that those suspended were those who participated in a so-called NEC meeting of the party in Bauchi State on May 3, this year.
He urged all the members and teeming supporters of the party to remain calm and law-abiding even in the face of unwarranted provocation by divisive agents.
