Ahead of the August 8 Governorship Election in Osun State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday, conducted a sensitisation programme for members of the 2026 Batch C of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at the orientation camp in Ede.

The exercise was aimed at preparing corps members for their roles in the forthcoming Osun State governorship election scheduled for August 8, 2026, as many of them are expected to serve as ad-hoc staff during the poll.

Speaking on behalf of the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Mutiu Olaleke Agboke, the State Training Officer, Mr. Olawale Ayanleye, underscored the critical role NYSC members play in the conduct of credible elections.

Ayanleye noted that corps members make up a significant portion of INEC’s ad-hoc workforce, stressing that their performance is central to the success, transparency, and credibility of the electoral process.

He urged the corps members to carry out their duties with integrity, neutrality, and a strong sense of responsibility, reminding them that their conduct before, during, and after the election would significantly influence public confidence in the electoral system.

The INEC official further emphasised the importance of strict adherence to the Commission’s guidelines and procedures, adding that professionalism and commitment are essential to the delivery of a free, fair, and peaceful election.

The sensitisation programme forms part of INEC Osun State’s broader preparations for the 2026 governorship election, reinforcing the Commission’s commitment to capacity building and sustained stakeholder engagement ahead of the poll.

In their responses, the corps members commended INEC for the initiative, describing the sensitisation as timely and enlightening as they prepare to contribute to the democratic process in the state.
