The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has directed all its members in Osun State to vote for the candidate of Accord Party in Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
In a communique issued at the end of an emergency meeting in Osogbo, the state capital, on Thursday, which was signed by the State Chairman, Dr Charles Omidiji; and State Youth Leader, Hon Ayoola Ige; the party’s State Working Committee said that after a careful evaluation of the candidates, it “resolved to throw her support in favour of Dr Akin Ogunbiyi, the Candidate of ACCORD in the elections and form an alliance.”
It said that the decision was based on his “sterling qualities, rich entrepreneurial experience and leadership traits which we believe is much needed today in the governance of Osun State particularly considering the poor state of affairs of the State.”
The party noted that the election “is an opportunity for the good people of Osun State to reset governance by ushering in a new team to steer the wheels of the State.”
It said that the party hoped that its support for Ogunbiyi would transform to the “emergence of a new Osun State.”
INEC Begins Distribution Of Sensitive Materials
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the distribution of sensitive materials to all the 30 local government areas of the state.
INEC officials moved the materials amid tight security on Thursday night at the commission’s headquarters located along Gbongan/Osogbo road.
Security operatives are on standby for the Osun State governorship election on July 15, 2022.
While handing out the materials, the Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof. Abdulganiy Raji said the electoral officers would take the items to their councils where they would be sent to the polling units on Saturday morning.
According to him, the move is to ensure efficient delivery of the items to the polling units on Saturday.
