Osun distributes teaching aids to public schools

Osun State Government has flagged off the distribution of teaching and learning materials to pupils and students across public schools in the state, reinforcing its unwavering commitment to delivering quality education for all.

At the flag-off ceremony on Wednesday, Governor Ademola Adeleke, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Teslim Igbalaye, highlighted the remarkable strides of his administration in revamping the education sector.

He reiterated that education remains a top priority of his government, underscored by sustained investments aimed at raising learning standards and improving infrastructure across schools.

He said the Key achievements between 2022 and 2024 include full payment of counterpart funds to UBEC from 2019 to 2024, settling arrears neglected by previous administrations.

Others include construction and renovation of over 400 classrooms in 139 schools across the state.,supply of more than 12,500 sets of furniture for pupils, students, and teachers.

His words, “Enhancement of digital literacy through provision of ICT materials, solar power systems, and 1,000 electronic tablets for real-time attendance tracking.

“Support for school sports, agricultural education, and improved teacher welfare, including implementation of the minimum wage.”

Adeleke also disclosed that the 2024 UBEC/SUBEB Action Plan is in full implementation.

The plan includes the construction of 333 additional classrooms, provision of boreholes, toilet facilities, perimeter fencing, ICT centers, monitoring vehicles, motorbikes, and additional furniture for schools across the state.

“Today’s flag-off marks the distribution of new instructional materials across our schools. These include exercise books, notebooks, chalks, markers, core-subject textbooks, and over 12,000 new sets of furniture.

“With this intervention, the era of pupils carrying chairs from home is now history,” Governor Adeleke said.

The Governor also announced that the Alternative School for Girls in Osogbo will commence academic activities on September 22, 2025, in alignment with the resumption of other schools across the state. Additionally, the UBEC Model Smart School in Osogbo is ready for operation, with plans underway to replicate the model in other parts of Osun.

He commended the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Hon. Fadipe Ibukun Isola, and his team for their dedication. He also extended appreciation to UBEC for its valuable partnership with the Osun State Government.

“Our resolve is to secure the future of every Osun child through access to quality education. With God’s help and the continued support of our people, we will build an educational system that delivers for every child,” the Governor added.
