Osun State

The people of Ifon-Osun in Orolu Local Government Area of Osun State have sent a Save-Our-Soul message to the inspector General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun, over the worrisome activities of some allegedly gun-wielding miscreants in the community.

In their petition, which was also copied to Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, the state police boss, and the DSS, they begged for an urgent intervention to help them before things get out of hand.

The petition was signed by the secretary of Ifon-Orolu Progressive Union, Prince Jide Adelaja Akinyooye.

It alleged that a top government official in the local government has been carrying sophisticated guns in public places unchallenged, and has been sponsoring the miscreants who are allegedly freely carrying illegally-acquired guns to threaten the innocent people of the community.

Also, it said that the security operatives have been notified, but nothing has seen to have been done on the matter, and as such, many people in the community are living in fear.

According to the petition, the same government official “has been abusing his political office to give cover to other thugs including a popular notorious thug names withheld terrorising Orolu people.”

It alleged that in violation of a Peace Pact signed with the Osun State Government, this same official “and his collaborators have continued to threaten the lives of Olokania people, who are traditional tenants of the Olufon of Ifon-Orolu Kingdom and other chiefs including people of Orolu Local Government.”

It said: “We, therefore anticipate that the appropriate authority of Osun State Government will give attention to such sensitive political recklessness and call on the security agencies to probe the gross violation of the Peace Pact
signed with the Osun State Government. Particularly, the issue of sand excavation in Opapa Village that has been taken over by the Osun State Government.

“We request the Osun State Government to erect visible signboards in the restricted area in order to discourage continued activities by any of the three communities as these activities, if not fully checked, could frustrate the peace efforts of government.”
