The Governing Council of the Osun State College of Health Technology (OSCOHEALTH), Ilesa, has held a three-day leadership retreat aimed at strengthening governance, promoting innovation, and advancing institutional excellence.

The retreat, themed “Leadership, Innovation and Excellence: Building the Future of Our Institution,” took place in Ede, Osun State, from Tuesday, August 19 to Thursday, August 21, 2025.

In his opening remarks, the Chairman of the Governing Council, Hon. Abayomi Adegoke (popularly known as Yomex), described the event as a timely opportunity for strategic reflection and learning. He noted that the Council bears the responsibility of protecting the credibility and future of the institution.

Adegoke emphasized the Council’s focus on enhancing staff and student welfare, executing developmental projects, and working toward the planned upgrade of the College into a Polytechnic of Health and Management Sciences.

“With global challenges facing tertiary institutions — from declining funding to increasing demands for accountability — this retreat is an opportunity to reexamine our priorities, reinforce good governance, and explore new models of revenue generation,” he said.

He praised Governor Ademola Adeleke for his commitment to education, describing him as “the architect of modern Osun State,” and lauded the commitment of Council members and stakeholders who attended the retreat.

Delivering the keynote address, Osun State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Sunday Adedipo Eluwole, called for stronger collaboration between the political class and the bureaucratic arm of government, saying both must work hand-in-hand for institutions to thrive.

“Politicians drive policy, but it is the bureaucracy that sustains and implements those policies,” Eluwole said, highlighting governance, funding, capacity building, and institutional autonomy as pillars for educational reform.

He urged participants to use the retreat to foster partnerships and develop actionable strategies to elevate health education in the state.

The Provost of the College, Dr. Lateef Olanrewaju Raheem, expressed gratitude to the Governing Council, facilitators, and attendees for their dedication to the College’s growth. He assured that the resolutions from the retreat would be implemented for the benefit of both the institution and Osun State.

The retreat featured paper presentations by scholars from Osun State University and Obafemi Awolowo University, and brought together council members, education stakeholders, and experts to deliberate on pathways for building a more innovative and globally competitive institution.
