Osun State’s Auditor-Genera, Mr. Kolapo Idris, has praised Governor Ademola Adeleke for his transparent and accountable management of the state’s finances.

He gave the commendation on Thursday during the official presentation of the 2024 financial statements and audited accounts of the state government, describing the governor as a prudent leader who ensures that public funds are properly utilized and well accounted for.

His words, “Governor Ademola Adeleke has demonstrated that he is a transparent man when it comes to the finances of the state.

“He is very prudent, and he ensures every penny is spent on meaningful initiatives.”

Addressing accounting officers and Permanent Secretaries, the Auditor-General emphasized the importance of responding promptly to audit queries, warning that failure to do so would no longer be tolerated.

“I want to speak directly to accounting officers,” Idris said. “Responding to audit queries is not optional. It doesn’t necessarily mean the matter is resolved, but failure to respond only delays your files at the Auditor-General’s office.”

The event was attended by representatives from the civil society organizations, market associations, professional accounting bodies, persons with disabilities, and the media.

Idris presented the comprehensive 2024 financial report, which included the Consolidated Statement of Financial Performance, Financial Position, Cash Flow (both direct and indirect), Changes in Net Assets/Equity, Budget and Actual Comparison, and explanatory notes—all prepared in line with Section 125 (2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and Section 17 (a-i) of the Osun State Audit Law 2019.

Also speaking at the event, the Head of Service, Mr. Samuel Aina, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Bureau for Public Office, Mr. Najeem Akintola, urged accounting officers in MDAs to strictly adhere to standard financial practices and respond promptly to audit requests.

In a goodwill message, the Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Osun State, Abimbola Fasasi, appealed to the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation to facilitate the release of the state’s withheld monthly allocations for local governments. He noted that the continued seizure of the funds was adversely affecting the livelihoods of rural residents and lacked justification.
