The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Osun State Council has congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke and the people of the state on the occasion of the 34th anniversary of the state’s creation.

Rising from its August Congress held in Osogbo, the union commended Adeleke’s administration for what it described as “remarkable strides across key sectors” of the state’s development.

According to the communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, Osun State has recorded impressive progress under the current administration in areas such as education, agriculture, mining, healthcare, infrastructure development, and human capital enhancement.

“The visible progress in critical sectors is a testament to the governor’s visionary leadership and commitment to the wellbeing of the people,” the union noted.

The NUJ also prayed for continued peace and unity across Osun State as it marked another year since its creation in 1991. It called on citizens to embrace a spirit of cooperation, support one another, and contribute actively to the state’s progress.

In a notable appeal, the Council urged Adeleke to mark the state’s anniversary with a significant gesture by approving the immediate absorption of 66 freelancers of the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation (OSBC). The union emphasized that many of these individuals have served the corporation diligently for years without formal employment status.

“Effecting their absorption would not only be a mark of goodwill during this celebratory period but also significantly improve morale within the media sector and promote socio-economic stability for the affected workers,” the union stated.

It appealed for swift action from the governor, highlighting that the move would enhance the state’s information dissemination infrastructure and be a symbolic gesture of appreciation for media professionals.

Voter Registration Campaign

Also, the union underscored the importance of ongoing voter registration efforts across the state. With the next governorship election on the horizon, the union urged eligible citizens to register for their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) or transfer them if needed.

“Participating in the electoral process is a fundamental right and a civic responsibility. Every eligible citizen should ensure they are properly registered to vote. This is a chance to shape the future of Osun State,” the Congress noted.

The union described the ongoing registration as a golden opportunity for residents to make their voices count, stressing that democratic participation is essential for accountable governance.

The NUJ also lauded security agencies operating in the state for their efforts in maintaining law and order, especially during periods of heightened political activity. The Congress expressed appreciation for the relatively peaceful atmosphere across Osun and acknowledged recent achievements by national security operatives in combating terrorism, particularly the arrest of key insurgent leaders in the northern part of the country.

“We commend our security agencies for their vigilance, professionalism, and dedication to duty. Their work ensures the safety and stability of our democracy,” the statement read.

It called on its members to actively participate in all union programs and activities. It emphasized that greater involvement would help strengthen internal solidarity and better position the union to protect the interests of journalists and media professionals in the state.

“A vibrant union thrives on the participation of its members. We encourage all journalists in Osun to remain engaged and united as we pursue a stronger, more impactful profession,” the council concluded.

As Osun State reflects on 34 years of its existence, the NUJ’s message served as both a celebration of progress and a reminder of the ongoing work needed to secure a more prosperous future for all.
