Osun State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps, has arrested nine suspects for various crimes including rape of minors, theft of livestock, and burglary across different local government areas in the state.
Among the suspects is a 60-year-old man, who was arrested for allegedly raping a six-year-old girl in the Ode-Omu area.
According to Amotekun sources, the suspect gained access to the victim’s residence, lured her with money, and sexually assaulted her. He reportedly confessed to the crime during interrogation.
In a similar incident, a 26 year old resident of Ijebu-Ijesha, was arrested following a complaint by his wife. He was accused of having unlawful carnal knowledge of her nine-year-old daughter.
The suspect reportedly admitted to defiling the child three years ago and confessed to repeating the act recently. The suspect, a former school teacher, reportedly expressed regret, stating he could not explain what led him to commit such an act.
Another disturbing case involved a 26 year old man from Akwa Ibom State, who was working as a farm laborer in Modakeke. He was arrested for allegedly raping his employer’s 12-year-old daughter. The suspect reportedly confessed to raping the child twice before being handed over to Amotekun by the girl’s father.
In a separate operation in Ipetu-Ijesa, Amotekun operatives apprehended a 56 year old suspect for allegedly stealing two goats. He reportedly concealed the goats in his Lexus SUV and was intercepted following a tip-off from residents.
He was saint to have confessed that he had been stealing goats for over seven years to prepare pepper soup in his beer parlour; and that he was an ex-convict previously jailed for a similar offense.
Speaking on the arrest, Amotekun Corps Commander, Chief Adekunle Omoyele, praised the vigilance of residents and emphasized the Corps’ commitment to keeping the state safe.
“Our operatives responded promptly to the distress call, and the suspect confessed to the crime. This further demonstrates our resolve to rid Osun State of criminal elements,” he said.
In another operation in Oluponna, Olaoluwa LGA, two suspects — aged 30 and 25 — were arrested for burglary. The duo, a bricklayer and an electrician respectively, were caught stealing electrical items from an uncompleted building. The stolen items, valued at over ₦450,000, were traced to a buyer in Iwo. Both suspects confessed during interrogation.
Additionally, Amotekun operatives in Ilesa arrested three suspects – aged between 18 and 22 — in connection with multiple burglary incidents at the Atakumosa Market. Items recovered from their hideout include electronics, building materials, and household goods worth millions of naira.
Commander Omoyele urged residents to remain alert and report any suspicious activities to security agencies.
“Let this serve as a warning: there is no hiding place for criminals in Osun State. Every suspect will be investigated and charged accordingly,” he stated.
All suspects are currently in custody and will be arraigned in court following the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
