Osun State Government has alleged that the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) is planning a protest to cause unrest during the scheduled one-day visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the state.

In a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, the government claimed it had uncovered what it described as a “sinister plot” to sponsor a demonstration designed to create a breakdown of law and order and subsequently blame the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke.

The statement urged residents to disregard the alleged plan, assuring that the government would not be intimidated or distracted by what it called attempts to blackmail the administration.

According to Alimi, the public — particularly residents of Osun — should remain cautious and avoid being misled, especially as political activities intensify ahead of the August 8, 2026 governorship election.

He stressed that neither the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) nor the Accord Party in the state had any involvement in the planned protest, despite ongoing disputes surrounding withheld local government allocations.

The commissioner added that the government remains confident that legal processes will resolve the local government issues and restore normalcy to council administration across the state.

Alimi further alleged that the planned protest was a diversionary tactic intended to discredit the Adeleke administration, insisting that the government continues to enjoy broad public support.

He advised residents to avoid Mandela Freedom Park, Osogbo, identified as the venue of the presidential visit, to prevent being caught up in any potential unrest.

The statement expressed confidence in the administration’s popularity ahead of the forthcoming election, while criticising opposition figures expected to align with the APC.
