The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Dr. Mutiu Olaleke Agboke, has intensified efforts to strengthen electoral preparedness ahead of the 2026 Osun State governorship election with a strategic stakeholders’ meeting in Ifelodun Local Government.

The engagement brought together key actors in the electoral process, including representatives of political parties, religious leaders, civil society organisations, security agencies, the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), and members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Addressing participants, Agboke said the meeting aimed at fostering direct interaction with stakeholders and obtaining firsthand information on prevailing challenges within the local government area.

He noted that such engagements are vital to developing practical solutions that will enhance the credibility and efficiency of the electoral process.

The REC emphasized the need for collective responsibility, urging stakeholders to remain proactive and committed to their roles. He stressed that collaboration, transparency, and diligence are key to delivering a free, fair, and credible governorship election in 2026.

Stakeholders, in their responses, commended INEC for the initiative, describing the visit as timely and impactful.

Representatives of political parties pledged their commitment to a peaceful electoral process, assuring that their members would be sensitised on the need to maintain peace before, during, and after the election.

Transport stakeholders also assured the Commission of their readiness to provide adequate and reliable vehicles to support smooth logistics and efficient service delivery on election day.

The meeting ended on a positive note, with participants expressing a shared commitment to work collectively towards a successful, peaceful, and credible 2026 governorship election in Ifelodun Local Government.
