The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Osun State Chapter has paid a courtesy visit to the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC in Osun State, Dr. Mutiu Olaleke Agboke, as part of efforts to deepen youth participation in the electoral process ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
Speaking during the visit, the Chairman of NYCN Osun State, Comrade Akinbode Olakolapo O., expressed gratitude to the Commission for the warm reception and reiterated the Council’s commitment to fostering a politically conscious youth population.
Akinbode noted that the purpose of the visit was to strengthen collaboration with INEC in areas such as youth mobilization, voter education, and election awareness.
He highlighted several sensitization activities previously undertaken by the Council, including statewide campaigns encouraging young people to register for their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), shun electoral violence, and actively participate in democratic processes.
He added that as the 2026 governorship election approaches, the Council intends to intensify its awareness programmes and therefore seeks INEC’s support to broaden their impact across the state.
Responding, the REC, Dr. Mutiu Agboke commended the Youth Council for its continued role in promoting civic responsibility, good governance, and credible elections in Osun State. He acknowledged the strategic importance of the youth constituency, describing the NYCN as a vital bridge between the electoral body and the wider youth population.
He encouraged the Council to sustain and amplify its sensitization campaigns, emphasizing that young people remain crucial stakeholders in safeguarding the electoral process.
He assured the delegation of INEC’s willingness to partner with organizations committed to strengthening civic education and peaceful political participation.
The visit concluded with renewed commitments from both parties toward ensuring that the 2026 governorship election in Osun State is peaceful, inclusive, and reflective of the people’s will.
Highlight of the meeting included the presentation of an award to the REC by the NYCN Chairman, the presentation of INEC’s Regulations and Guidelines for the Conduct of Elections, and a group photograph to commemorate the engagement.
