The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), in Osun State, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, on Wednesday led a delegation of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on a strategic sensitization visit to the state command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

It was in continuation of the commission’s enlightenment on the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration CVR across the State.

The REC said the visit aimed at strengthening the existing collaboration between INEC and the NSCDC, particularly in areas concerning security, public order, and the protection of INEC offices and personnel during the voter registration period.

Agboke emphasized the pivotal role of security agencies in safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process, noting that maintaining peace and order at INEC’s Local Government offices and the State Area Office is critical to the success of the CVR exercise.

He said during the meeting, “We consider the NSCDC a vital partner in our efforts to create a conducive environment for eligible voters to register without fear or intimidation.”

The NSDC State Commandant Igbalawole Sotiyo, warmly welcomed the INEC team and commended the Commission’s proactive approach to stakeholder engagement.

He pledged the full cooperation and support of the Corps, assuring that NSCDC operatives would continue to work closely with INEC to ensure a peaceful and orderly registration process throughout the state.

“We will continue to provide adequate security support to INEC to protect both officials and registrants, and to ensure the CVR exercise is conducted in a secure and organized manner,” he said.

The visit marks another step in INEC’s broader sensitization and stakeholder engagement strategy aimed at boosting public confidence and ensuring credible elections through inclusive and secure voter registration processes.
