Osun 2026: I will win – Adeleke

Osun State

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has assured that he will win the forthcoming governorship election based on the impressive performance of his administration.

He gave the assurance as his party declared that defections of some of its members won’t stop the governor’s reelection.

In fact, the governor’s party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP said that Adeleke will be re-elected in 2026, despite the defection of some of the ruling party’s members to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).

Adeleke spoke in Abuja on Thursday at the National Headquarters of his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at his screening as the party’s candidate in the 2026 governorship election.

He declared that the PDP is ready for victory in the August 8, 2026 election election.

Speaking after the clised-door exercise, the Governor said: “We have delivered good governance to our people in Osun. Our records and popularity are unrivalled. So we are ready for victory come 2026.

“We have the full backing of the people. Election is about voters and we know our people love us.

“We have strong faith in God and the people that we are going to secure re-election overwhelmingly.”

He was accompanied by the PDP South West Vice-Chairman, Hon Kamarudeen Ajisafe; state chairman, Hon Sunday Bisi; Secretary to the State Government, Hon Teslim Igbalaye; Special Duties Commissioner, Dr BT Salami; Commerce commissioner, Rev Bunmi Jenyo, and members of the National Assembly.

The chairman of the party, Sunday Bisi, who stated this, declared that the defection of the members will not stop Governor Adeleke from winning his re-election in 2026.

Assuring victory for Adeleke in the coming election, PDP chairman in the state, Hon Sunday Bisi said that the people of the state generally support Adeleke’s reelection based on his impressive performance, despite the defections.

Some former members including a member of the House of Representatives representing Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency, Wole Oke, had recently defected to the APC.

But Bisi described the defections as “a storm in a teacup”, saying almost every sector of society is in support of Adeleke’s second-term bid.

Indeed, the PDP chairman told The Punch on Wednesday that Adeleke enjoys the support of the majority of the people of the state, expressing confidence that they would vote massively for the governor in 2026.

According to him, “The defections are not a serious matter; they are a storm in a teacup. If you talk about defection, you can reference the movement of the Delta State governor and the entire PDP structure in that state to the APC.

“I acknowledge that as a real defection. The defections in Osun cannot affect us in any way.

“Adeleke is doing well in terms of infrastructure and social programmes for the people of the state. He has been delivering good governance, and people will appreciate him for that by re-electing him in 2026.”
