In a bold move aimed at revitalizing Osun State’s tourism and local economy, frontline All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant for the 2026 elections, Kunle Rasheed Adegoke (SAN), popularly known as K-RAD, has announced plans to reintroduce modern taxi services across key urban centers in the state.

Speaking during a stakeholder engagement in Ila Orangun, Adegoke unveiled the initiative as part of his broader “Assured Future” blueprint, designed to drive economic diversification, youth empowerment, and infrastructural renewal.

“Osun State is a treasure trove of cultural, historical, and natural attractions—from the Osun-Osogbo Sacred Grove to the Erin Ijesha and Ayankunugba Waterfalls, and the Oranmiyan Grove in Ile-Ife,” Adegoke said. “By reintroducing efficient and affordable taxi services in major towns, we will make it easier for tourists to explore our heritage, boosting local businesses and creating jobs.”

Adegoke noted that the new taxi system would not only offer comfort and safety but also help market Osun’s rich cultural identity. He cited the example of tourists preferring a proper taxi over local minibus services (Korope) when traveling to places like the Owalla Dam for boat rides or bird watching.

“Tourists want a comfortable experience. They want trained, cultured drivers who can tell our stories and promote our traditions,” he emphasized.

The proposed taxi scheme will initially focus on major towns such as Osogbo, Ile-Ife, and Ilesa, with future plans to expand across the state. The services will integrate mobile technology for booking and payments, ensuring a seamless and secure user experience.

“This isn’t just about transportation. It’s about creating a tourism-driven ecosystem that empowers our youth through jobs—as drivers, support staff, and technology operators,” Adegoke explained.

The reintroduction of taxi services is part of his larger economic plan which also includes agricultural transformation, infrastructural investment, and youth-focused entrepreneurship.

A key pillar of his strategy, called “Project Origin,” aims to position Ile-Ife as the spiritual and historical cradle of the Yoruba civilization, attracting global tourism interest and investment.

“Tourism is a low-hanging fruit in our economic diversification strategy. By making our heritage sites more accessible, we will attract visitors, boost commerce, and reduce dependence on federal allocations,” Adegoke said.

The initiative has received commendations from APC leaders and tourism stakeholders. Dr. Adebisi Obawale, former Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, described K-RAD’s proposal as a “game-changer,” likening it to his own Karele Oodua project during his time in office.

Also speaking at the event, Hon. Femi Fakeye, a former federal lawmaker, urged Adegoke to stay the course and expand his message of innovative governance across Osun State.

Adegoke, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and indigene of Osogbo, called for support from party members and citizens, pledging a transparent, inclusive, and development-driven administration.

“Together, we can build an Osun where tourism thrives—creating wealth, preserving culture, and opening doors of opportunity for all,” he said.
