Osun 2026: Cracks in APC as Omisore Drags Party to Court

Osun State

Fresh cracks have emerged within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State as former National Secretary of the party, Iyiola Omisore, has taken the party to court over issues believed to be connected to its governorship primary.

Court records show that Omisore filed a suit against the APC at the Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo, with the case listed under suit number FHC/OS/CS/261/2025.

The matter reportedly came up for mention on March 2, 2026.
Although the details of the suit were not immediately clear as of the time of filing this report, sources within the party indicated that the case may be linked to the controversial APC governorship primary held on December 13, 2025, which produced Bola Oyebamiji as the party’s consensus candidate for the August 15, 2026 governorship election.

Omisore was among several aspirants disqualified by the APC screening committee ahead of the primary election. Others affected included Babatunde Haketer Oralusi, Oyedotun Babayemi, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, Benedict Alabi, Adegoke Rasheed Okiki, and Senator Babajide Omoworare.

The screening committee had cited irregularities in their nomination processes, stating that the aspirants failed to provide proof of sponsorship from at least five registered and financially up-to-date party members from each local government area in the state, as required by the party’s constitution and guidelines.

Following the disqualification, Omisore accused the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, of influencing the process to favour Oyebamiji.

In a video circulated after the screening exercise, Omisore alleged that the chairman of the screening panel admitted to being pressured to disqualify him and other aspirants.

“The panel report is the most ridiculous report of this year. It is quite unfortunate that people are taking partisanship beyond politics,” Omisore said.

He added that none of the disqualified aspirants had been officially given a copy of the report explaining the basis for their disqualification.

Political observers say the development may further deepen internal divisions within the Osun APC ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
Meanwhile, tensions within the party intensified following reports that leaders of the APC in Ife Federal Constituency expressed dissatisfaction over the alleged imposition of Kayode Adereti as the running mate to Oyebamiji.

Party leaders from the constituency were said to have accused Oyetola of failing to consult widely before announcing Adereti as the deputy governorship candidate.
They warned that such decisions could create further disaffection within the party and worsen existing divisions among party leaders in the Ife axis.

Efforts to get Omisore’s reaction to the court case were unsuccessful as calls to his phone were not connecting at the time of filing this report.
