The African Democratic Congress (ADC), has raised an alarm over an alleged plan by the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to rig the forthcoming 2026 governorship election through irregular voter registration tactics.

In a statement on Friday by the its Publicity and Organizing Secretary, Abosede Busayo Oluwaseun, the ADC accused the APC of orchestrating a “sophisticated rigging plot” involving an alleged registration of individuals from neighbouring states including Oyo, Ondo, and Lagos into the Osun voters’ register.

It alleged that compromised officials within the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are being used to facilitate multiple registrations and the transfer of voter cards for party loyalists into Osun State.

According to the statement, “This is a direct assault on the democratic will of Osun citizens. It is condemnable and must be resisted by all peace-loving Nigerians.”

The party questioned the credibility of recent voter registration figures released by INEC, citing the commission’s claim of over 393,000 new registrations within just eight days as suspicious and possibly manipulated.

It linked the alleged scheme to what it described as the APC’s “win-at-all-cost mindset” and criticized the federal government for allegedly creating conditions of “economic hardship, insecurity, and democratic backsliding.”

The ADC’s statement comes amid growing political activity in Osun State as preparations intensify for the August 8, 2026 governorship election.

It called on Osun citizens to remain vigilant and reject any form of electoral malpractice, stressing, “Osun must not become a testing ground for electoral fraud. The people must defend their right to vote and ensure a free and fair election.”
