
“Makers of Nigerian Press,” a book written in honour of two distinguished Nigerian journalists, the legendary late Alhaji Ismail Babatunde Jose, often described as the doyen of Journalism profession in the country and Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande, the revered Second Republic civilian Governor of Lagos State, will be launched in Lagos on Tuesday October 22.
Chairman of the occasion is a former Governor of Ogun State and former Managing Director respectively of Daily Times and The Sketch, Aremo Olusegun Osoba. Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, would be the special guest of honour.
The event, which is expected to be graced by most of the nation’s prominent journalists among other notable Nigerians, will take place at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, NIIA, Victoria Island, Lagos, at 11.30 am.
Author of the book, who is also a veteran journalist, Chief Dayo Duyile, described it as “a book of history on the making of Nigerian press beginning from December 1859 in Abeokuta to date.”
He said of his latest book: “It is a mixture of the old and the new, featuring veterans of Journalism and their contributions to the development and growth of the press.
The 88-chapter book spanning over 800 pages also features the ownership structures of Nigerian media, the philosophies of the various media, and the contemporary media men and women with their professional contributions to nation building.
The whole story is better seen in the histories of our media system as researched and reported in the book.”
Duyile is a senior lecturer in Journalism and Mass Communication at the Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State.
He had served previously as a journalist at the Nigerian Tribune, Daily Times, WNTV, Drum Magazine and Concord Newspaper.
