The Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, has painted a rosy future for Ondo State in view of her fabulous cocoa plantations, the yet unexplored bitumen deposits, the second largest in the world after Canada, oil fields, agricultural produce, and oil fields among other mineral endowments awaiting exploitation.
He spoke during a special live interview on the services of the state owned television, OSRC TV and Radio, and Orange FM stations to round off his two day visit to Ondo state.
Ondo is a great state with incredible potentials. I am excited to see what the government is doing in terms of infrastructure, and the development surrounding bitumen which of course the state is very well known for.
He believed that the future here is certainly great with the work that is going on and the detailed plans.
According to him: “Ondo has always been the cocoa capital of Nigeria, and one of the key projects the government has chosen to do is to resuscitate good cocoa production as the leading state in cocoa production in Nigeria and the entire world. I think we are looking at an exciting time ahead for this state.
“We have one of the largest bitumen deposita here in Ondo state. You can imagine Ondo state is not going to be like other states in the country as it is in the right direction, so we are looking forward to a great time.”
He commended Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu,, SAN, saying he has justified his mandate with projects and initiatives to better the lots of his people.
To him, Akeredolu’s style of governance which takes cognisance of proper planning before projects execution deserves commendation.
He said the Governor\’s effort to rejig the economy of the state through massive infrastructure, bitumen exploration, and revamping the fortunes of cocoa, as a leading producer in Nigeria, deserve the needed support by all and sundry.
Osinbajo disclosed that the Muhammadu Buhari administration has so far invested 1.3 trillion naira on infrastructure which he noted is the highest by any government in the history of the country.
Osinbajo said all the social intervention programmes of the present government like the N – Power, Home Grown School Feeding, Conditional Cash Transfer scheme among others are aimed at uplifting the socioeconomic status of the people.
He said his visit across the country has shown that the masses are appreciative of government’s efforts to reposition the country despite all challenges.
The Vice President who was accompanied to the interview session by Governor Akeredolu, and other top federal and state functionaries, was received by the Chairman of Orange FM and OSRC, Mr Kunle Adebayo.
