A group within the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has described the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, as “the most qualified and acceptable candidate to sustain and improve the positive gains, achievements and legacies of President Buhari and capable of tackling the myriad of developmental challenges facing the nation.”

The political support group, Progressive Consolidation Group (PCG) wants Osinbajo to contest the 2023 presidential election “for the purpose of re-strategising the priorities of the Muhammadu Buhari presidency, enhancing progressive reforms and national unity.”

Its National Coordinator, Ahmed Mohammed expressed these on Friday when he led other members from six geo-political zones on a visit to Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari at the Government House, Katsina.

He said: “Looking at the extant developmental challenges that the country is contending with, it is only wise for the party to choose a most qualified and most acceptable candidate to sustain and improve on the positive gains, achievements and legacies of President Buhari.

“It is in view of this development that we at the PCG feel convinced that an Osinbajo presidency come 2023 will bring down tension, facilitate unity and stability as well as accelerate further progress in all sectors of the economy.

“Therefore, we are here before you to seek for your support, wise counsel and advice towards accelerating the possibilities of collective success.”

Responding, Masari said what members of the APC needed at the moment “is to ensure that the party wins the forthcoming general election irrespective of ethnic differences.”

He said there are tremendous achievements under the APC administration in the past six years in terms of security, payment of pension and gratuity as well as developmental projects in the country.

The group also visited the Emir of Daura, Dr. Farouq Umar Farouq, where they canvased his support and blessing to enable Osinbajo succeed Buhari come 2023.
