The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has called on the alumni of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, to rally behind their alma mater to elevate its status among Nigeria’s top institutions of higher learning.
Oba Ogunwusi, himself an alumnus of the polytechnic, made the appeal when members of the institution’s Governing Council paid him a courtesy visit at his palace in Ile-Ife.
Describing the polytechnic as a breeding ground for trailblazers across various fields, the monarch emphasised that increased alumni engagement and support are critical to helping the school compete more favourably with its peers.
“We will take it one step at a time, and I will use my influence and networks to support the institution,” the Ooni assured, pledging to collaborate closely with the school’s leadership to mobilise key stakeholders and forge strategic partnerships aimed at driving development.
Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Olanrewaju Nassar, who led the delegation, commended the Ooni for his continued loyalty and commitment to the polytechnic.
“Your leadership in Yorubaland has fostered unity and cultural renaissance. Your unwavering dedication to The Polytechnic, Ibadan, serves as an inspiration for us all. It energises our mission and motivates the next generation of leaders,” Nassar said.
The visit also featured a tour of the palace grounds, with the highlight being the presentation of gifts to the monarch in appreciation of his support and hospitality.
