Arole Oduduqa and Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi on Monday hosted renowned Nigerian music star, Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, alongside his mother at his historic Ile Oodua Palace, Ile-Ife, Osun State.
The monarch, who is the Permanent Chairman of the Southern Nigeria Traditional Rulers Council (SNTRC) and Permanent Co-Chairman of the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria (NCTRN), commended the award-winning artiste for consistently projecting Yoruba culture and identity on the global stage.
Asake was received in a colourful ceremony rich in Yoruba tradition, marked by rhythmic drumming, traditional chants, prayers, and cultural performances that reflected the deep heritage of the Yoruba race.
The singer arrived at the palace in the company of popular media personality Idowu Adeyemi (Yhemolee), some students of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, fans and supporters who thronged the palace to witness the historic visit.
Speaking during the visit, Asake expressed profound gratitude to the royal father for the warm reception and fatherly blessings, describing the moment as humbling and unforgettable.
In a show of reverence and excitement, the music star burst into songs of praise, extolling the virtues, ancestral greatness, and spiritual significance of the Ooni and the ancient throne of Odùduwà.
Responding, the Ooni expressed joy at welcoming the artiste back home and praised him for remaining deeply connected to his roots despite his global success.
“I am truly happy that Asake has come back home. He is a son of the soil who continues to proudly promote Yoruba culture to the world, and this gives me great joy,” the monarch said.
The Ooni offered prayers for Asake’s continued success, invoking Olódùmarè to guide his path and crown his efforts with greater achievements across his career.
The monarch also paid glowing tribute to Asake’s mother, commending her sacrifices, steadfast support, and prayers throughout her son’s journey to stardom.
“She is indeed the true producer of Asake — a woman whose dedication and unwavering support have shaped the man we celebrate today,” the Ooni remarked.
He further applauded the artiste for remembering his roots, describing the act as a noble virtue worthy of honour, while also appreciating Asake’s supporters and well-wishers for standing by him.
The atmosphere became emotional as Asake’s mother beamed with joy while the Ooni presented her with special royal gifts in recognition of her sacrifices and motherly role.
In a symbolic gesture underscoring identity, heritage, and continuity, the Ooni also presented Asake with a sacred Ife artwork, representing history, pride, and the enduring bond between the global music star and his ancestral roots.
