Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke
One person has been feared dead, and 25 others have reportedly sustained gunshot injuries following a violent clash at Ido-Ayegunle, a community located between Ijebu-Ijesa and Esa-Oke in Osun State.
Crisis erupted over the weekend after the State government announced the appointment of Prince Timileyin Oluyemi Ajayi as the Olojudo of Ido-Ayegunle in Obokun Local Government Area.
Some sections of the community who claimed that the newly appointed monarch was from Ilesa and not a native of the town, opposed the announcement.
The crisis escalated on Monday, leading to a full-blown communal clash.
Sources said that suspected hoodlums, who allegedly operated like security operatives, opened fire on residents, resulting in the reported casualties.
The violence has left residents in fear, with many fleeing for safety.
Meanwhile, students of Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke, have been placed on high alert as tensions spread to neighboring communities.
Community leaders and residents have called on the state government to intervene urgently to prevent further escalation of the crisis.
